☕ Homemade Chai Tea Latte

Ingredients (1 serving):

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 black tea bag (or 1–2 tsp loose-leaf Assam/Darjeeling)
  • ½ cup milk (whole, oat, almond, or soy)
  • 1–2 tsp honey, maple syrup, or sugar (to taste)

Spices:

  • 2 green cardamom pods, lightly crushed
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 1 small cinnamon stick (or ½ tsp ground cinnamon)
  • ½ inch fresh ginger, sliced (or ½ tsp ground ginger)
  • 4–5 black peppercorns
  • Optional: 1 star anise or pinch of nutmeg

Instructions:

  1. Boil the spices:
In a small saucepan, combine water and all spices. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 5–10 minutes to release the flavors.
  2. Steep the tea:
Add black tea. Steep for 3–5 minutes (shorter for milder flavor).
  3. Add milk & sweetener:
Stir in milk and preferred sweetener. Simmer gently for 2–3 minutes—do not boil.
  4. Strain & serve:
Strain into a mug. For a café touch, froth extra milk and spoon on top
